In this laudable effort Israeli virtuoso violinist Ittai Shapira gathers three seemingly disparate violin concertos to create a picture of the genre through a particularly American lens. Shapira's deeply affecting playing is present throughout, flowing from Menotti's restrained lyricism and Barber's straightforward and engaging work to a world premiere recording of Theodore Wiprud's stormy "Katrina" concerto, composed for Shapira himself.
